Retail sales data confirms that there is a growing trend toward feeding pets raw food. Many veterinarians are reluctant to recommend these diets, however, due to concerns about their safety and nutritional value. Stella & Chewy’s has effectively addressed these issues.

Pathogen-proofing raw diets.

At Stella & Chewy’s, food safety is our number one priority, and we have the processes in place to prove it. Case in point: We utilize an exclusive process that incorporates Hydrostatic High Pressure to eliminate harmful pathogens without cooking out vital nutrients or changing the natural taste. To date, HHP is the only scientifically recognized pasteurization process that does not use heat or irradiation to accomplish this.

Additional steps are taken to ensure that an aseptic environment is maintained throughout our manufacturing plant. For example, to prevent further contamination by surface and air-borne pathogens during processing, we use a series of devices that emit low levels of safe, pathogen-fighting gases such as ozone and hydrogen peroxide.

To verify the efficacy of these processes, each batch is tested by an independent laboratory for Salmonella and E. coli 0157:H7 before packaging. We’re so confident in the quality and safety of our products, the test results are posted on this website. Click here to learn more.

Providing complete nutrition.

To create a family of nutritionally complete and balanced canine dinners, we start with only wholesome ingredients like raw, naturally raised meat poultry or fish, sourced from USDA-inspected facilities, plus organic fruits and vegetables. We add vitamin and mineral supplements to meet AAFCO nutritional profiles.

Chewy’s Chicken Dinner, for example, contains farm-raised chicken as the primary ingredient plus organic cranberries, spinach, broccoli and beets. Just like every Stella & Chewy’s dinner and treat, it’s made without grain, fillers, artificial preservatives or colorings – not even sugar or salt are added. And veterinary professionals can rest assured that every ingredient is sourced from reputable suppliers.

The evidence is compelling.

Anecdotal evidence suggests that pets are healthier, more energetic and less susceptible to disease when fed a raw diet. While no statistically significant studies to corroborate these claims have been completed yet, Stella & Chewy’s founder Marie Moody is a raw diet believer. Marie’s experience nursing Chewy back to health convinced her that wholesome, less-processed food can dramatically improve a pet’s health. For the full story, click here.

Thank you for taking this opportunity to evaluate the safety and nutritional value of Stella & Chewy’s dinners and treats. Now that you know the specific advantages that set our raw diets apart from the rest, we think you’ll agree that veterinarians can recommend them to pet parents with confidence.
